LAGONOY, Camarines Sur – The first-ever tourism event here,
organized by the municipal government of Lagonoy
in cooperation with the Municipal Tourism and Cultural Council dubbed as
“Lagonoy Kadahoman Festival,” will be
launched tomorrow with a grand spectacle of songs and dances.
A brainchild of Mayor Asela Maria Valencia Florece, the "Kadahoman
Festival" will showcase the undiscovered town of
Lagonoy to boost its tourism and business potentials. "Kadahoman" came
from the Bicolano term "dahom," meaning
beautiful or good.
The week-long celebration will feature a myriad of activities such as
trade, crafts and agricultural fairs. Local products
made from indigenous materials will be highlighted such as the nipa or "karagumoy’’
(material from where the mat
of ‘banig’ is made) and "tiger-grass,’’ popularly known as "sugbo’’, that
is made into "walis tambo’’ or soft-broom.
Lagonoy is the chief supplier of "tigergrass" to the prominent "walis
tambo makers" of North Luzon and some parts
of Central Luzon..
Other activities include cultural presentations, Kadahoman logo design
contest, hymn competitions, dance showdown,
Search for Miss Kadahoman/Miss Lagonoy and Miss Gay Lagonoy 2005,
Livelihood and Business Forum, street
dancing, Drum and Lyre Competition, and Marching competition by the
different Barangay Police (Tanod Groups).
Nature trekking or site visitations to ecological sites and spots as well
as the demo on "Binamban/Puto-tabla" and
"Tonok-Tok’’ making will also be held.
